From the first tissue sample to the finished slide: prepare the histology that reveals how biomaterials and implants interact with the body. Work with soft tissue, undecalcified bone and the methods that preserve what matters.
Your contribution
What you will do
- Receive and document specimens, maintain traceability and assist with trimming.
- Process soft tissue in paraffin and hard tissue in plastic, including Technovit 9100; prepare paraffin and plastic sections on the rotary microtome.
- Perform histochemical and immunohistochemical staining and contribute to method development.
- Digitise slides with whole-slide imaging and contribute to histomorphometric analysis and research projects.
- Maintain SOPs, raw data and laboratory records in line with the applicable ISO/IEC 17025 and GLP requirements.
- Support audits, proficiency testing and method validation, working with the team, clinical partners and clients.
Your experience
What you bring
- Completed MTA / BTA training, a B.Sc. in Biology or a comparable qualification.
- Experience in histology and routine paraffin microtomy, ideally in a regulated laboratory.
- Strong immunohistochemistry skills on human and animal tissue: antibody establishment, troubleshooting and independent assessment of staining results.
- Plastic histology experience, including Technovit 9100 or MMA, is a particular advantage. Familiarity with GLP documentation and ISO/IEC 17025 quality assurance is welcome.
- A precise, independent approach, manual dexterity and a commitment to traceable documentation and quality.
- Clear communication and very good written and spoken English.

Histopathological assessment of biomaterials and medical devices: local tissue response, implant integration and systemic toxicity. Contributing specialist interpretation to GLP studies, with responsibilities matched to your qualification and experience.
Your contribution
What you will do
- Take responsibility as Principal Investigator for the histopathological or toxicological pathology phase of GLP studies, within your area of expertise.
- Local tissue response: assess soft and hard tissue from biomaterial and implant studies, including semi-quantitative scoring under DIN EN ISO 10993-6.
- Systemic toxicology: evaluate protocol-defined organs from laboratory animal studies under DIN EN ISO 10993-11, using INHAND nomenclature and consistent severity grading.
- Integrate microscopic findings with clinical pathology, organ weights and in-life observations; distinguish treatment-related, adverse and background findings.
- Assess histochemical and immunohistochemical stains, contribute to method development and validation, and discuss findings with the study team.
- Prepare GLP-compliant pathology reports, contribute to SOPs, and communicate findings to clients and authorities.
Your experience
What you bring
- Human-medicine route: Specialist certification in Pathology or Neuropathology recognised in Germany, with experience in histopathological tissue assessment.
- Alternatively, veterinary-medicine route: Dipl. ECVP, Dipl. ACVP or an equivalent qualification in veterinary pathology. Late-stage residents close to certification are also welcome to apply.
- Experience relevant to your focus: biomaterial or implant histopathology, or toxicological pathology of laboratory animals with confident interpretation of background lesions and clinical pathology data.
- Knowledge of the relevant ISO 10993-6 or ISO 10993-11 methods, or willingness to acquire it. Readiness to take on the Principal Investigator role; training is provided.
- Familiarity with GLP and ISO/IEC 17025 environments. Experience with paraffin or plastic sections, digital pathology or whole-slide imaging is an advantage.
- Very good written and spoken English. German at B2/C1 level is preferred.
